Therapist Owned – Family-Centered Approach

At ATP Therapy, we offer numerous group classes, generally offered in a series of 4-6 classes.

Pragmatics Group:

The pragmatic and social group sessions are designed to enhance social/pragmatic communication skills with a goal for the children to have fun while targeting carry over of pragmatic skills targeted in individualized therapy. Children learn to recognize, understand, and demonstrate practical skills that support healthy relationships with family, friends, and peers. By placing children in various social situations, we help them build a foundation for adapting their language to different contexts and interacting effectively with others. Each session focuses on key concepts such as using language for different purposes, understanding nonverbal cues, turn-taking, asking questions, emotions and politeness to name a few. All of which are vital for successful social communication.

Early Language Development Play Group:

A play group for children ages 2-4. This class will further enrich language skills, fine and gross motor skills as well as sensory integration. We offer interactive activities and take-home techniques for parents. Activities will include circle time, music time, arts and crafts, sensory activities, fun with food, physical obstacle courses, reading enrichment and more. Children will participate in enriching language activities that enhance language development and build upon the social aspect of language development (pragmatics) by interacting with other children of a similar age group.

Handwriting Group:

Our Handwriting groups will be taught by our Occupational Therapy Team. The techniques are based on the “Handwriting Without Tears” Curriculum. Each student will receive a handwriting bag for carryover at home.

Adventurous Eaters Group:

Let’s get MESSY!!! Adventurous Food Eaters group is open to children ages 3-8 years old. Classes will be presented in a series of themes (e.g. crunchy, sweet, sour, fruits, smooth, soft). This group is to encourage our picky eaters to be more adventurous with their food choices. “We don’t have to like everything we eat but let’s try it first.” The goal of our food group is for children to learn to have FUN with food and remove the anxiety associated with it. Some of our primary areas of focus will include tapping into our 5 senses, food sorting games, art with food, giving the control back and sensory play.
